Huzhou Vocational & Technical College is a public higher vocational college authorized by the People's Government of Zhejiang Province. It is oriented for experimental projects with purpose to train application-oriented students by the Education Development Research Centre of the Ministry of Education. Being a Model Unit of Zhejiang as well as a Safe Campus, the school, as the third having received the Evaluation of Higher Vocational Colleges, successfully passed it with excellent records in May 2006.
The school is located in Huzhou, one of China Top Tourist Cities in Zhejiang. Situated in a convenient location, to the west of Shanghai, on the south of Hangzhou, and to the north of Nanjing, the city enjoys beautiful landscapes with long history and developed economy.
The school campus, covering an area of 600 mu with 130,000 square meters of academic floor space, cradled in a lovely landscape, featuring a typical Jiang'nan small bridge across a stream, pavilions and arch bridges, sweet-scented osmanthus trees on a well-maintained grass lawn, and pools lined by willows, -- an ideal place for students to learn and develop. At present, there are over 7,200 full-time students and over 5,000 spare-time adult students. The school is staffed with a faculty of over 380 members in teaching and administrative posts, among them 93 teachers have senior professional titles, and 77 teachers have obtained doctor or master degree. As many as 145 teachers are double-professional-titled. Of all teachers, one expert is enjoying the "Government's Special Subsidy" by the State Council, and five teachers are the candidates of Zhejiang "151 Talents Project" as well as the leading persons of subjects of Huzhou "1112 Project".
The school has six faculties: Faculties of Business Administration, Faculties of Electro-mechanics Engineering, College of Distance Education, Faculties of Humanities and Tourism, Faculties of Architecture and Art Design, and Faculties of International Trade and Foreign Languages. There are 29 majors, including secretarial/administrative support training, management, manufacture, electronic information, finance and economics, and art. The Secretary Major is a provincial-level 'key specialty', and the course of Secretary Theory and practice is one of the nation-level 'high-quality' courses. Another five courses, namely, International Trade practice, Process Control and Automatic Instruments, SQL SERVER Database Administration and Design, Moral Cultivation and Introduction of Law, and VB Project Design, are listed as provincial-level 'high-quality' courses.
The school adheres to promoting its competitive power, taking service as the tenet and the employment as the guidance, and holds the opportunity to enlarge the school scale, to improve the schooling, to elevate the teaching quality, to present the school characteristics, and to enhance the strength of the school when the school is on a driving development momentum.
The school is advanced in school management with a full set of infrastructure. With one national vocational education and experimental base, the Electrician Electron Teaching Experiment Center, one provincial-level economy and trade experimental base, two key laboratories in Huzhou, Process-controlling Laboratory and Modern Logistics Laboratory, 5 national skill appraisal station, 12 research institutions (vocational education research institution, new electron technique application research center, modern logistics research institution), and 80 advanced campus experimental laboratories. The total value of all the teaching facilities is over 33,000,000 yuan. The library, with a total floor space of 12,000 square meters, boasts 500,000-volume of book collection and nearly 1,000 domestic and overseas magazines.
In recent years, the school has gained abundant academic achievements, undertaken 57 provincial-level scientific research items and 197 tasks at all levels and of each kind, attained 40 items above the municipal-level award, won 9 patents, published 742 academic essays and 10 books, edited or helped to edit 43 teaching materials for vocational education, obtained 5 projects on new century teaching reforms and accomplished 1 key course of the higher education 'Tenth Five-Year Plan'. From 2003 to 2005, the scientific research essays published by the school ranked top 3 among all other vocational colleges.
The school pays great attention to cultivating the students' professional skills and improving their all-around quality enhancement and it has established cooperation with hundreds of enterprises in internship, scientific research, training and employment. Talented persons with good certificate, consummate skills and good business senses are welcomed by the employers. In recent years, the employment ratio of the graduate is over 98%.
The school has also conducted an active academic exchanges and educational cooperation with other domestic and overseas colleges. It has established relations of friendly cooperation with The City College George Brown in Canada, Science & technology and Further Education College in New South Wales Australia.
